In the Fall 2008 edition of WINGTIPS, several articles are concentrated on our areas airports. Dumas' Moore County Airport (Brandon Cox-Manager) is the cover story about its part in the 2007 Valero explosion and the grant it will receive to help upgrade the airport. Borger's Hutchinson County Airport (Dennis O' Bryant- Manager) is another recipient of a TxDOT grant ...starting with a needed game fence to help keep the runway free from large animals. Dalhart Municipal Airport salutes Cecil Ingram, owner, who has been with the airport since 1948. In addition, you can read about the proposed Randall County Airpark and Judge Houdashell's support. You can view the newsletter by clicking here.

AIRCRAFT IN THE PRESS!
Texas Highways magazine (September 2008 issue) features Palo Duro Canyon as one of the "7 Wonders" in Texas. The magazine's awesome centerfold is a picture of our Cherokee flying over Palo Duro Canyon. All the local photos were taken from the Alarus (Yes, great pictures from a low wing with no obstructions!) You can get your copy of the article from local newsstands. Online articles are summaries only, click here. Palo Duro pictures are only found in the magazine.

CHARTS AND SECTIONALS UPDATE
As of October 1st, the National Aeronautical Charting Office (NACO) will increase the price for sectionals and charts. The new prices are listed on our Pilot Shop page. Click here.

In addition, NACO will be making changes to the World Aeronautical Charts (WAC). Beginning with the December 18, 2008 effective date, WACs will only show obstructions that are 500' AGL or taller. SEPTEMBER 09

CHALLENGE AIR FOR KIDS AND FRINEDS! Coming to Amarillo September 12, 2009!
Registration is now available online for Pilots, Kids, Agencies and Volunteers! Click Here.
Challenge Air was founded in 1993. The mission is to offer motivational, inspirational and life changing experiences to children and youth with special challenges by soaring above their perceived limitations and giving them a chance and choice to see the world form a different view - a view from the sky.

The "Fly Day" event will allow these children and their families to spend a day - for free - at the airport with activities, entertainment, food, fun, learn about aircraft and fly. Riding as co-pilots, these children are inspired and motivated to take their experience of flying and internalizing a sense of pride and accomplishment that they can take with them for years to come.

This day will help facilitate communication and awareness of the variety of needs within our community. Agencies that support children, youth and families with special needs are welcome to set up a booth and/or banners during the event to distribute information to the parents about their services.

Area businesses are encouraged to sponsor the event. Sponsors will be given special recognition with advertising at the event and on T-shirts provided to the participating children. All sponsors are invited to set up a booth and/or banner, not only to advertise their product and services, but to represent their career field to the future workforce. Product donations are also accepted to help facilitate the event.

Volunteers are inspired by the smiles and joy they see. Volunteers are needed throughout the day to help register, play, and act as aircraft ground crew, help with ground activities, and more.

Registration for children agencies, pilot and volunteers is all done online a ChallengeAir. com.
